This quarterly award recognizes a deserving recipient from an ancillary department who demonstrates these qualities: goes above and beyond their normal duties, inspires others in a positive manner, is an excellent team player, takes care of the entire patient with excellence, shows compassion to patients, families and colleagues, and consistently demonstrates our Core Values.
Here’s an excerpt from Jeff’s nomination letter written by Chaplain Cindy Goza:
“It’s easy to take things for granted when you work at a hospital. We work our shift, we get to go home at the end of the day. And when our day off rolls around, we get to do things that are important to us.
“There was a day that I’ll always remember and it was due to the Herculean efforts of a co-worker and a goal that this person had for a long-term patient of ours. I run into Jeff frequently at the hospital and no matter how busy he is, he always has time to greet, smile and joke with co-workers.
“One morning I was visiting with Jeff and we were talking about all the things we had on our to-to list. Jeff loves getting to know the patients and really does not like getting rushed because it takes away from the one-on-one time with them. I received a call to go to CHI St. Vincent North and when I walked outside I saw the most amazing thing. It was the most gorgeous day outside. The sky was blue and there was a group of people standing by an oak tree – two nurses, a patient on a respirator, her mother and a respiratory therapist. I looked and Jeff had found a way to stay over and get her outside so she could feel the breeze instead of just look at it through a window. That moved me more than anything. In spite of all the trouble, Jeff went the extra mile. He never said we can’t. He said how can we and he made it happen.”
