Michelle Staggs Wins Daisy Award

daisy-award-1Michelle Staggs, APRN, was the October 2016 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner at CHI St. Vincent. Staggs is an Advanced Practice Nurse on 4 North at the Infirmary.

Here’s an excerpt from her nomination letter, which was written by a coworker:

“A patient was being discharged. This patient was admitted as a trauma–a pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle and his clothing had to be cut off. At discharge, Michelle realized he had no clothing to wear, so she went to Target and purchased underwear, socks, sweat pants and a shirt for him. She paid for this out of her own pocket.”

The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
