Teresa Nooner, RN, is the May 2016 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner at CHI St. Vincent. Nooner is a Registered Nurse on the 4 West unit at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary.
Here’s an excerpt from Nooner’s nomination letter, which was written by a patient’s mother:
“Words can’t even describe how we feel about this nurse. My daughter, age 16, was in the hospital and had major surgery. She had the surgery on Monday and we were blessed to have this nurse on Tuesday. Our daughter had several problems with her ostomy bag and at one time the bag leaked. The nurse had just gotten off work but heard my daughter crying and came into the room to be with her. She immediately grabbed my daughter and prayed with her. The whole time, other nurses worked to clean her up. My daughter swears this nurse is her guardian angel. She surely made an impact on her life during a very serious time for her and me.”
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
